About the event

This chapter addresses the cause of individuals struggling with the impact of anti-black racism. They often face denial and defensiveness from those around them, and these responses exacerbate abnormal feelings in addition to the hurt of antiblack racism. If onlookers or perpetrators of racism are naive or rigidly protecting themselves from the challenge of this experience, they can act in ways that give the receiver cause to believe that there is something wrong with them. Lack of being believed, misinterpretation, or having nowhere to process the wound causes internalised racism. I reflect on examples that present this dilemma, and how the use of a black Empathic Approach to Psychotherapy can support individuals to move through this
