TRANSFORMING ANTI RACISM, LEGACY & KNOWING
Celebrating the Multiracial Experience: An exploration of issues related to the impact of Shadism/Colourism
This workshop is a response to the demand for a safe space to address the colour conundrum arising from issues around shadism/colourism and the multiracial experience, from participants of the ‘Challenge of racism’ workshops created by Dr Isha Mckenzie-Mavinga.
This one day in person workshop for BIPOC participants will offer an inclusive space where participants will be assisted to unravel some of the nuances and intersecting oppressions associated with skin colour oppression and multiracial relationships. The ethos of a black empathic approach will be used to encourage reflection and dialogue to enhance practice in this key area of anti-racist therapeutic and support work.
Aim of this training is to offer a safe space for sharing and to support understanding and exploration of Shadism /Colourism and mixed racial heritage experiences. To assist in developing an affirming and supportive dialogue about the topic. To offer facilitation of exercises and reflection for discussion.
Who should attend this training
This workshop is for BIPOC professionals, students, trainers and supervisors in the caring professions, who want to gain greater insight into the trauma and stresses of identity and find language to be proactive in eliminating internalised racism and skin tone oppression.
