Ongoing self care

Last weekend I took myself to the Northern end of the Island for a personal creative retreat. I continued artwork on one of my paintings and completed a small painting that helped me with some silent grieving about my son who is in hospital again. I am also wroking on a poem about this situation.

Today I went on an adventure with 10 other women. It was organised by someone who goes to my yoga class, and her husbend. Having spent the Easter weekend, quietly alone, I was ready to be in company again.

We met at Bucco bay and walked through the forest area between the beach and the Mangrove. The trek ended at No mans land, where we cooled and rested in the blue translucient water. When we felt revived Smokey, the husband of one of the women, took us in his Pirot boat to a place near the reef where turtles feed. This was new to me and we saw small brown turtles bobbing up and down on the surface and feeding off the reeds.

Then we went into the Nylon pool and sat on a sand bank enjoying the waves rushing over us like a natural jaccuzzi. It was fun and refreshing, and a little scary for me, as my ageing legs were not sure if they could stand up to the rushing water. I was heartened by the support that was available when getting in and out of the boat. The group held me and a couple of other older women, throughhout the trip and I arrived home safely. What an amazing day.
